Successful Pilot Projects
In 1996, The Science Park Gelsenkirchen demonstrated that large-scale solar power generation is attractive eve for metropolitan areas with below-average sunshine hours. With funding from the European Union, the State of North-Rhine Westphalia and RWE Energie AG, a 210 kW photovoltaic power plant was built. At that time it was the largest of its type in the world.
